About
Blog History
I started this blog back in November 2006 shortly after departing from my full time job as a web developer (at a local ISP). My first post explaining this, can be found here: Time for a new Start.
The blog was originally setup in Drupal, but in August 2007 I switched over to Wordpress.
Personal
I’m 26 years old, living in Perth, Western Australia. Basically an IT nerd (geek’s are cool, and I’m not cool, just ask my gf!), so anything IT related, I’m interested in and don’t do much else. But if I had to have hobbies, I guess you could say, travelling, playing PS3, listening to electronic music, and occasionally watching the AFL could be these..
Professional
I am currently employed as a PHP/MySQL Web Applications Developer at one of the best web development firms in Perth: Itomic. I’m also one of the Management admins at the Australian online games network: EGN Australia.

Hi Alex,
I’ve been reading your posts about migrating from Drupal to Wordpress with great interest. I’m the Executive Director of a small non-profit called überculture. We run a blog on political art at artthreat.net. It is currently in Drupal (5.2), but I’ve been wanting to move it into Wordpress for a while, a CMS that I know quite well, and that I find is much easier for our non-tech-savvy writers.
In any case, before I embark on trying to do this myself, I was wondering if this is something you might be willing to do, or if you knew someone else who could. We’d gladly pay someone who knows what they’re doing to have this done as long as it doesn’t cost a small fortune. I have a feeling this kind of thing would be pretty quick for you.
Thanks for considering this, it’s appreciated.
Cheers,
Rob Maguire

Hi Alex,
Thanks for following me on Twitter. Good to see you’ve migrated to Wordpress. Cuts out a lot of time and effort doesn’t it? I really don’t know if Drupal has as good a back-end as Wordpress and I gave up on Joomla myself a long time ago. I use these guys to source many of my graphics and WOP templates etc. http://www.themeforest.net – I KNOW you’ll enjoy that site
All the best. And I hope you get that gig just above my post
Happy Xmas!!
Hey Edwin,
The gig above is quite old!
Wordpress is great for a simple blog, but the minute you step outside the boundaries of this you run into trouble. Drupal was designed as a CMS/Framework for building any type of stable, secure, robust website or web application and we use it quite often now at Itomic. Check out our drupal portfolio here: http://www.drupalise.com.au/
Happy to discuss the pro’s and con’s of WP & Drupal over a coffee or beer one day if you like. Just shoot me an email.
Anyway, thanks for the comment!
